Program Introduction

This UC Joint Program is uniquely designed with the goals of helping international high school students to strengthen their English skills as well as providing unique opportunities to further explore American culture and values with an emphasis on the diversity of views and the understanding of those values with respect to students of an American research university.

During the first three weeks of our program, students will be staying at UC Berkeley to attend English courses. These courses are specifically designed to enhance student’s listening, speaking, reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills through the study of American, and especially Californian cultures.

The last two weeks at UC Davis will present students a chance to acquire important college study skills needed to succeed at American college, especially at University of California. With clever combination of tours, activities, presentations, along with discussion, and written assignment, the two-unit U.S. College Study Skills course covers principles of learning strategies, academic tasks such as problem-solving; note-taking; following directions; reading, organizing, and summarizing information for study purposes; test taking; and using the library, time management strategies, and test taking strategies. These invaluable skills will help students reach their academic and career goals.
